Palawan Tour Day 1 – Puerto Princesa City: My highest and farthest birthday celebration

17 July 2006: Welcome to Manila International Airport Terminal 2! The nervous and excitement were clashing into my aorta, it was my first airplane ride and at the same time, my 22nd birthday. Wearing my normal old-school pants, very popular white plain T-shirt and the black baseball cap, I tried remembering every little detail of the scenario in the airport because I knew that in the near future I’ll be using this facility more often. I saw lots of foreigners, lots of long-legged flight stewardess, excursionists, policemen, security officers, etc.

Few hours before our flight I tend to divert my attention to those people passing-by, I admit that I’m anxious and thinking what will be the feeling when you’re inside the flying plane although I've gone through the most breathtaking roller coaster ride at the Enchanted Kingdom in Sta. Rosa Laguna Ph way back 2001. Then there it goes, few minutes before the take-off I’m still tense even though I’m chatting with my cousin Elay and friend Michelle. Seat belt properly buckled-in and bingo, it was just a simple 3-minute giddy feeling during the take-off and after that, a 45 minutes of enjoying the aerial view from the window of the plane. Air Philippines offer cheap airfare but they said the convenience of flight was not so good which was true. The flight was not as smooth compare to a ride with a luxury air-conditioned travel bus. Nevertheless, we arrived at Puerto Princesa International Airport safely with complete hands and feet.

We headed straight to the Lodging Hotel by their local version of trike (three-wheeled vehicle). The accommodation has a balcony on the top floor overlooking the Sulu Sea.

We just had a simple talk all day with my cousins and their friends and enjoy the atmosphere at the hotel. My birthday just ended with a simple dinner and a glass of wine.I am very thankful to Ta Beth, Te Aiai and Elay who treat me to this adventure. They said it was a reward to my sacrifices during my board exam days. Welcoming me also to the world of lakwatsa (local term for adventure).
