20 July 2006: The beauty of Honda Bay and its islands were still on my mind shining and wishing to stay there even for a night. The following day we intended to see some of the popular spots in the city of Puerto Princesa. The journey along the city and going to the tourist spots were relaxing because of the good quality of its roadway with ample numbers of Acacia trees lined along side of it.

We first take a look at Palawan Crocodile Farm and Nature Park.

The main objective of this farming institute is to preserve and to increase the number of endangered crocodile species. It was my first time to see (and even touched) living crocodiles. Their body was cold, their skin was like skin of old people (saggy and rough), and their feet looks and feels like a normal lizard.

Besides from crocodiles, there were other endangered animals like uncommon specie of lizards, ostrich, rare crawling mammals, etc. which was taking good care of the institute officials. After the sight seeing and real encounter with the crocodiles you can do shopping in the small store inside the park which has variety of locally-made memorabilia and souvenirs.

Our next stop where we had our lunch was at Baker’s Hill. A place where you can find some of Palawan’s local delicacies, home made products such as chocolate crinkles, hopia (good biscuit), etc. They said before it was just a small bakery and as the demand rose, they gradually converted the place into a small theme park. They added small mansion in front of the park, garden, playground for kids, human-sized statue of well-known Disney characters, etc.

Late Sen. Ramon Mitra mansion was our third stop. The triangular shaped mansion is located in the hilltop of Sta. Monica Heights; the view deck of the mansion gives you a scenic view of the city, a part of Honda Bay, the vast ranch of the Mitrases. The hacienda offers a relaxing place to unwind and you can enjoy the beauty of nature.

On our way home, we dropped by at the Badjao Seafront in the city proper; unfortunately the resto was closed that time. So, we just continue the journey to our hotel, had a dinner and some drink that night.
