Puerto Galera: First time visit in Tamaraw Falls and Virgin Beach

16 March 2008: My third time in Puerto Galera, my first experience in Tamaraw Falls and my first swim in Virgin Beach ~ it’s a one day visit in Oriental Mindoro.

Aside from soaking into the popular white beach of Puerto Galera, nature tripping has been at its best in the town. Name it as Tamaraw Falls, approximately fifteen kilometers away from white beach. An easy destination to get to; just take a jeep from Puerto Galera bound to San Teodoro, it would take an hour ride over a combination of smooth pavement and rough road. You’ll also never get lost because the falls is literally few meters off the road. The falls has a series of small falls that end up into the pool at the bottom of Tamaraw Falls. A little amount of fee is collected to enjoy the cool water and use of picnic areas as well.

It is a noncommercial coast, a place that has no store and people living, there’s a grotto of Mama Mary, shoreline is mainly composed of crushed corals, full of trees and a simple unlocked wooden gate; we named the place as ‘Virgin Beach’ for we didn’t see any mark or sign showing its identity. This beach is just thirty minutes away from the crowded white beach of Puerto Galera; it is situated along the main road going to Tamaraw Falls. Be reminded that it has barely discernible entrance because of the thick greens on both side of the road and truly you’ll not expect that there is a quiet shore there. Luckily we brought our tent and cooking tools; we just had a simple lunch, enjoyed the beach a lot and feel the relaxing ambiance of the place.

Due to some personal obligations, I need to get back to Laguna that same day. I headed alone to Balatero pier from Ate Aimee’s friend house before sunset. The RORO departed around 1700 and reached Batangas Port two hours later. From this short sail, I asked myself ‘What if I try to travel alone?’ I think it would be a poignant experience (maybe because I used to a group travels?) but for sure, it’s full of challenges.

Anyway, I still have more travels to come and I’ll try solo travel definitely.

  4. I've been to PG so many times but haven't stumbled upon that beach. I actually still like PG's White Beach. Though seedy, it's fun especially if you go there with friends :)
