Anawangin Cove: A gift by traversing Mt. Pundaquit

Almost five tiring hours of trekking, and it was my first time so as with my cousins to do a traverse. It’s an incredible Holy Week trip somewhere in northern Philippines.

Choosing to explore Anawangin Cove by trekking is one of a kind adventure and a must try quest. It is a place bounded by Mt. Pundaquit and South China Sea in Brgy. San Antonio, Zambales, a pristine place to spend the weekend and wander through the tranquility of nature. The cove can be reach by chartering a boat or hiking from San Antonio, Zambales. Boat ride is relatively rough and will let you see the beauty of South China Sea, Camara and Capones Islands for an hour and a half while hiking  will let you experience to breathe the air in 464 meters above sea level, it amazingly show you the beauty of the cove, and pass by the well-planted pine trees for almost five hours. It was tough for a beginner to do a traverse especially if you’re carrying bulk items and heavy mountaineering bag. There were times that you really want to stop, rest for a while or take a nap to revitalize. But as long as you push yourself to put your feet up, you’ll get more tired and infuriated. Having 3-5 minutes stop is enough to drink water and do some stretching. One great tip during hiking is to enjoy the view for it is not an everyday experience to see that kind of scenery. Be thankful that you've been there and not all 3 billion pairs of shoes/sandals have set their mark on where you are walking through. Mt. Pundaquit is a combination of grasslands, shrubs, small bamboo trees, and pine trees along the Anawangin Beach. The peak offers a great view of the cove, given that the cove is really photogenic, the dazzling colors of the beach is really awesome and its white to gray sand is perfect for beach lovers.

Anawangin Cove

09 April 2009: It was a Holy Week getaway with my lovable cousins that triggered me to come back again and explore Anawangin. Even though its population is getting more and more every year, the ambiance of the place is still remarkable for me and I considered it as a place worth visiting. The cold breeze from pine trees, soothing sound from the rushing waves, perfect view of the cove, calm river/swamp near the shore, salty clear waters with fine sand, and a relaxing stay at the cove will indeed boost up your excitement to visit this God-humbly created paradise.
